The Brick House Community Resource Center is located in Turners Falls, MA and serves the five villages of Montague – Lake Pleasant, Millers Falls, Montague Center, Montague City and Turners Falls – and the town of Gill.
Our Mission
To support youth and family well-being by providing a place in Turners Falls for creativity and learning, growth and leadership, and strengthening community connection.
Our History
In 1989, in response to the deaths of four Turners Falls women at the hands of their domestic partners, a group of concerned residents, service providers, and town officials formed a coalition to create an organization based in town that would serve the needs identified by residents. This organization, the Brick House Community Resource Center, opened its doors in 1990 to provide accessible services, respond to immediate needs, and foster organizing efforts to address longer-term solutions for change and community development.
Since its founding, the Brick House has served over 3,500 residents with counseling programs, education, job training, employment resources and opportunities for building community. After its first decade, the Brick House concentrated its focus to address the underpinnings of social inequity by supporting individual and community well being through economic development, youth development, education, and advocacy. In 2003 the organization moved into its Third Street firehouse and renovated it into a community center, with an after-school youth drop-in space at its heart.
