We have begun hosting quarterly exhibits where young artists show their work to the community. They invite their friends, family, teachers, and neighbors to stop by and support them. It is powerful for youth to be recognized for their creativity, talent, and unique perspectives! In addition to showing their artwork, they’ve developed entrepreneurial skills as they sell some work during each show. One participant, Summer, shares what this experience has been like for her:
“I’m 16, and I’ve been coming to the Brick House for three and a half years. I don’t think I would have had as many artistic opportunities if I wasn’t a participant at the Brick House because they have a lot of art supplies and
resources. Recently there was an art show and I brought 15 paintings and made almost $150! It gave me a lot of confidence, because I do think highly of my art, but I don’t put value on things in my head. Once I saw
people coming up to me and giving me $30 for a painting the size of my hand, it was kind of a big news flash!”
Our next Youth Art Show will be on Friday, 12/14, 5-8 pm —please come!
We are so excited to announce that we’re expanding our arts leadership programming this year, with support from 3 brand new grants. With funding from a Mass Cultural Council YouthReach grant, a Community Development Block Grant through the Town of Montague, and a new partnership with the United Way of Franklin County we’ll soon be
offering weekly structured arts classes, and expanding our partnerships with local artists and entrepreneurs in the community.
