We are hiring a part time position to support our Teen Center programming.
Position: Youth Programs Support Staff
13 Hours per week. $14/hr
3 days/week between 2:30-6:00 (Tues, Thurs, and either Mon or Fri)
Staff Meetings on Tuesdays beginning 12:30pm
Program Mission: The mission of The Brick House is to support individual, family and community well-being through collaboration on youth development, leadership development, economic development, and education.
The Brick House provides a daily drop-in space called the Teen Center, which gives youth access to an art studio, dance space, computers, foosball table, instruments, recording studio, and other supplies. The Brick House Youth Program is making a transition towards offering more empowerment-based youth leadership programming as well, with a focus on arts, creative expression, health and harm-reduction, and social justice. We are looking for an experienced youth worker to accompany us in this exciting time of transition!
Duties and Responsibilities:
-Staffing Teen Center alongside other Youth Programs Staff
-Provide outreach for fuller participation at the Teen Center
-Conduct surveys and collect data on program participation
-Develop and implement appropriate programming for teens, with support of community members,youth, and Brick House staff.
-Participate in the organization and staffing of youth events such as open mics, screenings, concerts, or recreational activities
-Encourage youth to give input for Teen Center programming ideas/changes/improvements
-Facilitate youth leadership development by convening a weekly Youth Leadership meeting- providing space for youth to engage with social justice, healthy living skills, and community involvement
-Conduct trainings in an area of interest. May include: health, harm reduction, anti-oppression, or creative arts/expression skills such as music, poetry, fine arts, etc
-Hold supportive and motivational conversations with youth.
-Possibly assist in facilitation of peer-support mental health programming for teens
-Assist with upkeep of Teen Center, including cleaning and organizational tasks
-Provide staffing and transportation for trips off-site.
-Provide referrals to other local youth and family services, as needed
-Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
-Experience working with youth between the ages 9-21
-Commitment to social justice and a familiarity with social and systemic oppression
-Strong interpersonal communication skills and a commitment to working with youth
-Interest working with LGBTQIA+ youth, young people of color, youth from immigrant families, young people with disabilities, and youth from low-income families
-Good planning and organizational skills
-Willingness to collaborate with and have respect for staff members, community members and participants
-Commitment to building and sustaining healthy and appropriate relationships and boundaries with other staff, community members, and youth participants
-Good written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills
-Technology and computer literacy
-Reliable Transportation
-Must be able to pass a CORI (background) check
Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience in education or training
-Experience w/ music, video, photography, or other creative arts
-Personal talents, hobbies, or areas of knowledge which can be shared with youth: outdoor skills, -expressive arts, etc.
-Knowledge of non-violent communication, conflict resolution, or mediation
-Familiarity with subjects such as harm-reduction, radical mental health, or positive youth development
