There are many ways you can be involved!
Join one of our committees
Fun
Our Fun committee handles just that – fun! Help to organize events and activities that bring people into the Brick House and contribute to making it a fun and welcoming space. The Fun committee planned the Community BBQ & Backpack Giveaway, board and staff potlucks, and our annual Open House. The main role of the Fun Committee is to plan logistics and activities for both public events and board and staff get-togethers. Email hbertrand@brickhousecommunity.org.
Space
The Space Committee is responsible for managing all community use of the Brick House. We’re very excited that the front room downstairs and movement studio upstairs are being used more than ever before! It’s been really fun to have our committee grow to seven people over the last year, two of whom are starting to host music shows in the front room. We’d love to have a couple of more people join us to help orient and communicate with new space users. We meet once a month for an hour, work outside of meetings is about 3-5 hours a month for each member. Volunteers are given discounted and free use of the front room and movement studio as availability allows. If you’re interested, email space@brickhousecommunity.org.
Basic Needs
This is a newly formed committee to support our expanding basic needs program. It includes organizing to help identify and connect people with basic needs through things like our food pantry and winter coat drive. If you’d like to volunteer to help, please contact Jose Olvera-Aguilera at jolvera-aguilera@brickhousecommunity.org.
Building
The Brick House is forming a Building Committee. Members of the committee will participate in planning and facilitating renovations and adaptations to the 19th Century Firehouse building that is our home. Our goal is to repair and protect the building structure while also improving accessibility, utility and storage.
As a newly forming committee, the plan is to meet monthly while we evaluate the needs of the building. As a committee, we will decide on additional hours, and divide projects based on the expertise and availability of committee members. We may also create project sub-committees.
The primary function of the Building Committee is to inform and advise the board. To that end, committee members may meet with vendors to secure information and cost estimates from which they will generate the proposals they will present to the board. Based on these proposals, the board will begin fundraising to fund the projects.
Building Committee members should have enthusiasm about working to update and preserve a valuable community asset. Familiarity with building design, permitting, renovation, construction or related fields is ideal.
Please contact Maggie Martin if you are interested in participating on The Brick House Building Committee. Email: development@brickhousecommunity.org
Fundraising
We’ve been growing a lot in the last year and Tom, our Executive Director, has been doing an incredible job bringing in more funds for our programing. The fundraising committee works to supplement these funds through raising unrestricted donations that can go towards improvements on the building, giving us a more flexible pool of funding to support our staff, and securing a solid foundation for our future. Our big fundraising event of the year is the Brick House 5K and we need more volunteers to help with planning it. We also want to get more creative in our fundraising efforts and would love your help to brainstorm and implement new campaigns! Email bhfundraising@brickhousecommunity.org.
Finance
The finance committee works with the Executive Director to provide oversight on the budget.
